"Alone at last" she thought to herself as she pulled back onto the highway. Mere moments before, her small Volkswagon Beetle was loaded with 'her grandparents' and what seemed to be all of their earthly possessions.
"Gotta love holidays at the Mackenzie house" she smirked as she turned up the radio. It was a long drive back to Neptune and she planned to make the best of it. At least she was no longer stuck listening to her grandmother singing awful renditions of White Christmas and Jingle Bells.

"While on the corner, the jury's sleepless. We found your weakness. And it's right outside your door…Now testify!"
At this point in her drive, she was mad with delirium, almost screaming the lyrics. She was letting out all of her frustrations through her driving and singing. It had been one hell of a week. Thanksgiving was not a time of giving thanks in the Mackenzie house. No, it was about getting the whole clan together in one room with too much beer and not enough football. Turkey was always served during halftime and though any other day of the year her mother took Mac's vegan tastes into account, Thanksgiving was the one day she did not.
Mac had spent much of her break locked in her room with headphones intact only to come out periodically to make sure the rest of the house was still standing. That was until her cousin showed up with a two year old in tow. Three nights of sleeping on the floor in her brother's room had done quite a number on her.
As she neared Neptune, panic struck. For the past hour and a half she had been carrying on like a madwoman; ranting and raving at passing cars, belting out lyrics and talking to herself. She wasn't always a paranoid person, but after working with Veronica on a few cases…well paranoia was her new norm.
Turning down the radio, she started wracking her mind trying to remember what show it was that had secret cameras and microphones put into an unsuspecting friend's car to show just how bad the person's singing really is.
She was so wrapped up in the fear of someone somewhere having a recording of her recent behavior that she almost didn't see the person who was doubled over in the middle of the road. Reacting quickly, she swerved over to the side of the road and reached for her cell phone.
Passing it off as a random drunk, she began dialing the Sheriff's Department. Just as she was about to hit send, she looked up and actually saw who it was stumbling in the middle of the road.
"Logan" she breathed as her phone fell gracelessly from her hand.

He slowly stood up and began walking when Mac jumped out of her car and began running toward him.
She was halfway to him before she realized what she was doing. Slowing her pace, she began an internal battle with herself, weighing the pros and cons of getting out of her car in the middle of the night to help a very badly beaten Logan Echolls.
Though it took her less than a minute to reach him, she already had a very lengthy list of cons. One being that he was Logan Echolls and another being that the people who did this to him could very well be back at any moment to finish what they started.
"Logan…are you…" her words faltered when he lifted his gaze to hers.
"If you finish that…" he bit out before a coughing fit took over.
She quickly moved to his side, trying her best to keep him in an upright position. When his coughing subsided, she slowly led him to her car. Helping him into the passenger side, she finally saw the extent of his injuries.
"What in the hell happened?" she asked almost silently.
"Weevil" he breathed defiantly while slouching back into the seat. Warily, she made her way around the car to the driver's side.
"At least I'm not the only one who had a bad Thanksgiving" she said disbelievingly as she started the car.
